Google Ping: J.K. Rowling

I can hear all the groans echoing through cyberspace. There goes Luper with his Google Ping again. Who does he think he is trying to Ping the illustrious JK Rowling? Well, I'm crazy like that. That's how I roll.

For those of you new to this feature, Google Ping is a game I invented where I type a children's author's name over and over on my blog to see how long it takes him or her to find me by either Googling their name or hearing through the grapevine that they have been pinged. The fastest children's author to comment on my blog and prove they are who they say they are (and not some crazed children's author impersonator) is crowned the current champion of Google Ping.

Now before any of you say, why would an author respond to your Ping if they discover their mention later than the current record? Well, my friends, it turns out the standings are very important. They will be important for the upcoming Google Ping Tournament of Champions. Yes, you read it right. There is a tournament being planned that will pit authors head-to-head in a Google Ping battle to the death! Those initial times will be very important indeed--for pairing brackets and whatnot.

Here are the current standings:

Lisa Yee and Brent Hartinger are officially tied for first at 3 hours 5 minutes each (Brent was granted a two-hour grace as he was pinged on the release day for his newest novel)

However, John Green may have logged the record at an amazing 42 minutes! It was an anonymous post as John does not have an LJ membership. The esteemed judges agreed to log his time as official on the condition that the word "rhinoceros" be worked into a Brotherhood 2.0 video. That task was accomplished by John's brother, Hank, in this video here. The other condition was a simple plug in a Brotherhood 2.0 video or in the notes below (yes, I'm a shameless self-promoter). The second condition has yet to be met, but the judges have agreed that the "rhino" mention grants a reprieve, extending the plug deadline until this coming Tuesday. We'll see how good the nerdfighter network is.

Markus Zusak has yet to respond to the Google Ping and the upside-down Australian clock is still ticking.

So, back to J.K. Rowling. I am Google Pinging her to show each and every one of you the vast power of the Google Ping. It's sweeping the nation I tell you. It's sweeping the world (Can you sweep the world? Where would you put all the dust? Sweeping really is just the process of shifting dirt from one place to another to make the first place tidier than it was. So, you really can't sweep the world unless you move the dust to the moon or under the corner of some big carpet in outer space. But I digress.). The Google Ping is reaching the highest and loftiest folks in the biz. And it doesn't get much loftiest-ish than J.K. Rowling.

For those of you who have been living under a rock that was shoved under an even larger rock that say...is on the hot and gassy and ringalicious planet, Saturn (thanks for discovering those rings, Christiaan Huygens!), JK Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter series. Of course the final Potter novel is due out this summer and is expected to sell a few copies.

I'd imagine that Ms. Rowling does NOT have an LJ account, so I have decided that the one true way she can verify who she is will be to send me an advance copy of Harry Potter 7. I promise, promise, promise not to reveal any secrets! So, the challenge is out there, Ms. Rowling. Here is your Google Ping:

If you notice, I've alternately spelled her name with and without the periods after the initials because we here at Google Ping think of everything.
